1:13 pm - I just voted. :)
I love voting, yes I do!
I love voting, how 'bout you?!!!

Everybody go vote! May I suggest Barack Obama? Trust me. I'm smart.

Remember. Indiana is a swing state this year. It may be your only chance to ever feel useful in a Presidential election. w00t!

P.S. There was NO LINE.

It didn't work for Nick, but this is about as accurate as it gets for me (the description, not the graphic--the graphic's dumb). :p

10:53 pm - GREEN PENIS ('cause I want Aja to read this)
It's been a long time since I could blog with regularity. Frustrating. I should make myself. :) Jennifer asked and she shall receive. :)

My beautiful friend, Rich keeps contacting me and I keep sucking. You know what. I want to go to New York. Rich... are you up for it? *counts pennies* It may take a couple of months. Will you still be there?

I don't know why my brain resists this so strongly. How 'bout I just spit out words? Good? Awesome. You better be reading. All of you.

Nick and I went to an Animal Rights Conference in Los Angeles. It was fabulous fun. I know you aren't vegan or particularly ARy, Aja, but if I pay your way... will you go next year (in DC)? Plllleeeeeeaaaase. I think you'd like it lots. :) For real. Anyone else who wants to go along can either talk me into paying or just see exibits, and 1 presentation for free while hanging out in DC with me. Tempting!

While in Los Angeles, I bought the new Harry Potter. Oh. My. God. ...but I won't say anything. Just... OMG. ...and LA is sprawliest, worst city in the world. Next time I go, I'm staying in the hotel. :)

Mr. Spock's penis, by the way, is supposed to be green-tinted 'cause his blood's green. Not bright-green, mind you. ...but it's supposed to be a bit green.

I used to enjoy writing in these things. Now I can't even write a coherent entry.

Oh. I can knit! Not well, mind you. Crochet is next on my list. It may lead to sweat-free pretty things. Knitting probably won't serve me at all. Damn.

The funny thing is I'm having all of these enthusiasms and happinesses right now. I'm working toward a career in veterinary medicine, I'm feeling all woooOOOOOO about AR again... but it's just feeling. It's like work drains the life out of me. I go to work, I do my co-op stuff, I socialize on Fridays, I sit on my bum... and then I don't have time or energy for anything else. Ideally, my job would fulfill some desire apart from money and livelihood. It doesn't. ...but it's stable and not too emotionally challenging. That's everything I can hope for right now. :)

Love,

Sonja

1:56 am - yawningggggggggg
I have not ignored your phone calls. I'm just bad at coping with being busy. :) Let's see. I work a bunch and my hours just got changed. I now don't have to show up until 2:30 p.m. I also got a 25 cent raise. Yay. Hmm... I am gardening the hell out of this place. I'll post pictures, perhaps. Otherwise, they'll be on facebook... I think. I call this writing style "crappy like my stomachache." I had a dream about my crush at work. In the dream, Kate knew him and, thus we ended up hanging out. Cute!

As of today, I'm supplies buyer for the co-op. I'm excited and terrified. Buying stuff for 16 people. Whoa. I'm going to work out some kind of menstrual cup subsidy plan. I'm not making this up. :p On the co-op! If anyone wants to live here for 2 months this summer, we'll have an opening. Just throwing that out there. :) It's the room right next to mine. The place is totally gettin' better. :)

I really love Nick. I hope no one minds me saying so. :) Even more than the guy at work... who I only really have a hair crush on. I thought I'd say more, but my stomach really does hurt. Stay in touch!

Love,

Sonja

1:05 am - throwing myself at you
I'm forcing myself to write this. Funny how much I hate blogging. :)

Gatsie:

My trip to Indiana went well. Gatsie's Alzheimer's hit me hard a couple of years ago. Daily sobbing, alzheimer's nightmares having, class skipping, emotionally dependent on anyone who'd have me hard. She was my second mother and I thought (and still think) I was losing my family forever. What I got from the funeral follows: I miss my Gatsie, but I grieved all through her decline. I've been in the acceptance phase for a few months now. Gatsie planned her own funeral while she was still able. Her (absolutely beautiful) outfit was planned in advance, down to scarf and pin placements. It was nice to see Gatsie looking like herself again. :) I'm happy her suffering has ended.

Life Update:

Life in Madison is going well! :) I like my job. I like my boyfriend. I finally have the time, emotional stability, and financial independence to really think about what I want to do with my life. It looks a lot like (holy crap) I'm deciding against academia.

This may sound silly, but I read a novel (and thought a whole bunch). :) Now I want to do something useful. I want to play an essential role in the functioning of my community. I'm glad there are anthropologists and researchers out there, but I'm realizing more and more that if I make myself one of them, I won't feel like I (personally) am doing anything useful.

I lost interest late in my college career. Part of it was depression... but I also just didn't feel like I was working toward anything anymore. An anthro degree: what's that? A ticket to grad school and life as a scientist? I guess that doesn't motivate me like it used to. I don't want my career to be my life. My interests are more diverse than that. So, it's back to (vet tech) school just as soon as I can get in state tuition. :) Until then, I'll be taking prereqs for vet school correspondence. If I don't get accepted by the time I finish tech school, at least I'll have (pretty much) guaranteed employment in a field of interest, wherever I may go after Madison. I'm also considering a couple of related grad programs... but OMG, how did Sonja become a worker?

I got a job. It's one of those jobs where you don't have to be visible unless you want to be. If I'm feeling timid, I can hide in my cubicle, read, and secretly lust for my Bob Dylan-haired supervisor. Crap. I mean my boyfriend. If I'm feeling social, that's possible too. I only have to talk to a computer, AND I get to listen in on phone calls. It's brilliant. It pays well enough. 9.50/hour weekdays, 10 on weekends. (+60 cents overnight or something like a dollar if I speak Spanish, which I don't). After 90 days, I'll get a 25 cent raise and health and dental insuarance (unless missing the bus and losing my great-grandmother makes me get fired or something... which I guess it might, damn it!) I can get time off whenever I want and take someone else's hours pretty much whenever I want too. The hours are flexible, and I fit in (most of the people who work there are 20-something college graduates or current students). The bus stops right outside the place. This job was made for me in this phase of my life. YAY.

SOOOOOOO... if this sounds intersting to anyone, I can pretty much promise you'll get the job. Ask me how to apply long-distance. :) Madison has ample housing. I'll help you move and then take you out for dinner. It's like a bigger Bloomington. Living here makes me happy. :)

I work most days and spend the rest of my time soul-searching. I don't know when my next update will come. Chances are, though, it will fall on a Monday or a Friday. :)

OH, and last but not least, Jamie Hinton sent me the best and most thoughtful package EVER. I'll return the favor if it kills me! :) I miss you sooo much, Jamie. :) Aja too. :)

...but I'm happy.

You Are: 70% Dog, 30% Cat

You and dogs definitely have a lot in common.
You're both goofy, happy, and content with the small things in life.
However, you're definitely not as needy as the average dog. You need your down time occasionally.

So, my job requires 3 weeks of training. The first two are learning. The third is doing the job with someone sitting behind me for six hours straight, grading me and the like. Clearly the third week (which begins today) is the scariest to me. Guess what. I "graduated" training early. Someone's been sitting behind me since Thursday night. Now I have five days of it to look forward to. Nervousnervousnervous. I need to leave soon... and I have menstrual cramps. Yay! :( I hope I don't freak out, start crying and get fired. After this week, I should get big girl pay.

9:52 pm - I'm out of practice!
Now that I've effectively lost touch with everyone not in this city, I think it's time for an update. :)

Okay! So, I moved to Madison, WI shortly after Christmas. I'm living cooperatively in this house with fifteen other people and Nick's cat.

I cook with Nick on Sundays and then do dishes. I do some kitchen cleaning on Saturdays, and my food and rent are pretty darn cheap in exchange. Yay!

As of tonight, I am hired. I think it'll be something like 35 hrs/week for $9.50/hour... which may be poor to the rest of the world, but I suddenly feel like the wealthiest woman in the world. :) To celebrate, I bought this (fair trade, vegan, and waterproof!)...
...even though I won't start training until the week after next.

People may not know this about me, but I never buy things for myself unless it's food. I feel extreme guilt if I buy myself a cookie. *deep breath* *anxiety*

Aja, I kind of miss you. We were never as close I would have liked us to be. I've no one to look at hotttt Japanese boys with here. ...I mean, except for Nick and the cat.

Oh, the cat! Willow and I are getting along well! I've gone into full catparent mode, getting and making her treats, teaching her valuable communication skills (such as her name)... I even picked out her new food and enviromentally-friendly litter (after much research). I'm going to be the best dog companion ever someday. *sigh* *doglust* Willow's cool. :) More boasting!

Long ago, Nick bought Willow a squealing mouse on a spring toy. Willow didn't take to it.

A year or two later (recently), I gracefully caught my foot in a blanket, stumbled, and broke the mouse off of the top. The mouse immediately became more interesting to Willow.

Then I did this to the bottom...

And Willow has a new favorite toy! I'm so catbrilliant!

Also, Nick's been seeking a new cat condo or tree for Willow for quite a while. They're quite costly and the local selection is very weak.

...but I found this on sale and with free shipping! It arrived in two days complete with a price tag suggesting a much higher price than Nick paid. Willow really likes it!

So now I'm looking to make lots of friends and have a life outside of my house. :) I have some volunteer ideas, one of which means a 25% discount at one of the coolest bookstores ev-ar. Finally, I'm feeling a little optimistic and like I may have a future after all. The hope of stability brings that. Whew! Nick and I seem to be well past our rocky phase. Here we are in Chicago. He's making a weird face, but I like how I look... so whatev! :-p

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So, what do you think? Please reply to me. I want a little joy.

You know what! I'm adding more! Watch out friends pages!!!!!!

I got a really old laptop on freecycle... and then I got another one! This, of course, was after my laptop death. You're all using better computers than me and I'm out lots of money. No need to envy me. :) Here we go! Also note, both have working wireless cards (though I had to pay for one of them).

The cute one:

In those pictures, only my CDs aren't second hand. They're old. I feel so good about myself right now. :):):):):) It's a nice change.

Next entry: What I put on my walls. This all feels so superficial. :( Real thoughts coming soon too. :)

and if I've neglected any of you lately (and I have), I apologize. I like everyone who has known access to this journal. I promise. :) Call me.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
